Tom W.
Private tutor in London, United Kingdom

PhD in English & Humanities - Birkbeck, University of London. MPhil in English Language & MA (1st Class) in English Language and Linguistics - University of Glasgow.
Experience
Four years tutoring experience: ranging from tuition in basic grammar and punctuation to Standard/GCSE level tuition in English Literature. Many students seem to fall behind due to either a lack of motivation or a lack of self belief in their own abilities. Therefore, I firmly believe tutoring should be an enjoyable experience. There seems a great emphasis currently on 'learning to pass exams' rather than learning to broaden the mind. My aim is always to not only improve a student's exam results but also to open up new areas of interest and new skills.

Hobbies
On a personal level, I enjoy listening to music and I play the piano. As would be expected, I have a particular interest in Literature, from the Icelandic sagas to David Peace's 'Damned United'. The works of Saul Bellow, E.L. Doctorow and Geoffrey Chaucer are particular favourites. I am an easy going and approachable individual with a good sense of humour. I love travelling and new experiences, I dislike trying to describe myself...
